Lecture VII: Granados and Albeniz

Goyescas: one of his last work, inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya, the 18th century Spanish artist whom Granados passionately admired.
"El
Fandango de Candil" (Fandango by Lamplight) is based on the fandango, a
Spanish dance from strongly emphasizing rhythm. This particular fandango is
fairly slow in tempo, but it sustains a driving rhythmic character
throughout.
Quejas o la
Maja y el Ruisenor" (The Maid and the Mightingale): It describes a dialogue
between a maid, or maja, and a mightingale, the latter appearing in the form
of a cadenza at the end of the piece.
Iberia - by
relying his memory, a mood. (not painting) It attempts to relate an
impression taken from the celebration of Corpus Christi at Seville. The
progression seems to be approaching with its characteristic rhythm of the
drums, and quickly we discover the popular melody of the "Tarara".
Little by little it takes its form and intensity from modulations and
harmonic embellishments. Rhythmic form is obtained a development in the
presentation of the theme in a ternary rhythm.
